Irakli Abashidze – 100

On November 23, 2009 will be the centenary of the famous Georgian poet, academician, Rustaveli award laureate and public figure Irakli Abashidze.
The first jubilee celebration which was dedicated to this event was the photo exhibition on October 22 in Georgian National Museum (Karvasla). The organizers of the exhibition were Ministry of Culture, Monument Protection and Sport, Georgian National Academy of Sciences and I. Abashidze Chief Science Editorial Board of Georgian Encyclopedia. The idea belongs to the Irina, encyclopediab and Vakhtang Abashidzes. This event was lighted up by mass media (Rustavi 2, Imedi, Alania, Iveria, First Channel, newspapers: 24 Hours and Georgian Republic).
A lot of people visited the exhibition. Here were gathered Georgian political elite and notable public representatives.
110 photos, manuscripts, friendly jests, private letters and fragments from Irakli Abashidze’s poetry were exhibited.
“The exhibition is dedicated to Irakli Abashidze jubilee, but we are not remembering only him… these photos imprint the generation, which created the epoch and who misses our county very much”, told us Irakli Abashidze’s daughter Irina Abashidze (newspaper “24 Hours”, October 23, “Generation who we miss”, author Tamar Kiknavelidze).
And truly, Harry Belafonte, Indira Gandhi, Edward Canady, Helen Akhvlediani, Nodar Dumbadze, Akaki Khorava, Verico Anjaparidze, Michel Chiaureli, Rezo Tabukashvili and others revive the epoch Irakli Abashidze used to live and work.
